Origin: This mid-season dessert apple originated in England and was introduced in about 1800 by Mr Bell, land agent to the Duke of Northumberland at Sion House, Middlesex.
Appearance: The fruit is a striking scarlet colour and is medium sized.
Taste: It has a distinct flavour said sometimes to be raspberry. Keeps for several months.
Vigor: Robust and prolific cropper
