Taste
If you love a russet apple this one Is for you. This is one of Grant's favourites of Free Settlers. The sugar content is very high, acid is high and best of all if you are into living a healthy life eating fruits with high polyphenols this has a very high count. This apple is juicy, deliciously sweet and a good keeper.
Harvest Mid to Late season.
Pollination: Try Granny Smith, crab apple, Blue Pearmain, James Grieve, Jonathan etc.
History. We are not sure, seems no one really knows at this stage. As often happens with apples, the names get mixed up and lost through history. Some people think this is could be St Edmonds Russet an 18th century apple. But we have decided to stick with the name Calwell Keeper, coming from the collection at Grove Research Station in Tas.
